Did You Know...

You can use NoodleTools for help with your in-text citations. When you are on the list of your cited sources, click on the three vertical dots on the right side of the screen and select the In-text citation option. This will give you examples and tips to create your own in-text citations.In-text citation link


NoodleTools is an online research platform that the UCC Library subscribes to, to help you create, format, annotate, and retrieve citations.

No matter what type of material you are trying to cite, whether it’s an article from a database, an article from a print magazine, a novel, or even possibly a work of art, NoodleTools will help you cite it using APA, MLA, or Chicago style.

Unlike free ad-based citation generators, you enter the information on your own. Then NoodleTools will take that information and put it in the correct order, font, style, use correct abbreviations, and add appropriate punctuation.

To register for a NoodleTools account, click the image to the left. If you’re off-campus you might be asked to enter your institutional account information. If you are unable to connect via the VDI then you will need to contact the UCC library for the username and password to create your account.

Be sure to fill in all of the information in the new user registration box. It is important to note that you choose your own login here, but we strongly encourage you to make it your student ID and the same password that you use to access your email.
 


 

New Project button
Before you can save your citations you will need to create a project. Click the "New Project" button in the top corner of the screen.

You will need to:

1. Give your project a title: This can be anything you want it to, as it is for you to identify the project you're working on.

2. Select your citation style: Most classes use either APA or MLA style. If you're unsure of what style to use be sure to consult your course syllabus.

3. Leave the citation level on "Advanced": This level gives you the most template options.


 

You can share projects that you create in NoodleTools with your peers and/or professor. To share your project with your professor follow these steps:

  •  Select the project that you wish to share. Hover over the bar and press the plus sign under sharing.
  • Select "share with the teacher's inbox."
  • Press "share" (make sure you know the name of the project first) click it, and hit "done."

 Once you have created a project, you are ready to begin entering your sources.

  1. Look at the top of the screen and click on Sources.  
  2. Click on Create new citation.
  3. Where is it? This screen allows for you choose the location of the source. Did you find a digital copy in a library database or is it something you have it physically in front of you in print? Click on the option that best describes your source.
  4. What is it?  This describes the format of the resource. Is it a book, journal article, website, etc.? Click on the option that best describes your source.
  5. Now you are ready to begin entering your source information. 

Once you complete the steps above, you should be looking at a form with a lot of empty fields, which is where you will enter your source information. Any field you see with a red asterisk (*) is a required field. Fill out as much as you know about the source. Remember, you do not need to fill out all of the fields if you can't find that information on your source.

You can copy citations from one project folder to another within NoodleTools: 

Step 1: Identify the folder that you wish to put the citation in.

Step 2: Identify the folder that the citation is currently in.

Step 3: Select your citation and open the menu by hitting the 3 dots. Click copy and select the location you want the citation to be moved to.

Step 4: Click Submit.

Once all of your sources are added you can export your bibliography into a variety of forms.. 

  1. Click on the Printer icon at the top of the screen. You should see all of your citations in a list.
  2. Click on the Print/Export drop-down menu and select the format that works best for you.
  3. Add the downloaded bibliography as the last page of your paper or project.
