CRLA Certification for UCC Tutor Training ProgramUCC Tutor Training Program gets it's official Certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.

CRLA is an internationally recognized association that has been certifying tutor training programs for more than 35 years. We here at Umpqua Community College Tutoring Center are very excited to have achieved this goal and be able to say that all of our tutors are officially certified through our certified program.


*NEW: New eTutoring Resource Available in Canvas

In addition to TutorMe, there is a new online "almost" 24/7 live tutoring/writing lab/eQuesions resource available in each of your Canvas courses. These highly qualified and vetted eTutors come from across the United States at partnering universities and colleges and tutor in a wide variety of subjects. You can access eTutoring by signing into any of your Canvas courses and clicking on the eTutoring link (not to be confused with TutorMe).  If you have any questions, contact us at tutoring@umpqua.edu.

Community Tutoring for Junior High and High School Students

Services Include:

  • 5 one-hour tutoring sessions with UCC's experienced and background checked tutors.
  • Fee of just $100 for the 5 sessions.
  • Tutoring subjects offered:
    • Math, Writing, English, Literature, Art, History, Psychology.
  • Location: Sue Shaffer Learning Commons and Library on the UCC campus.
  • Scheduling varies with both tutor schedules and student schedules.

  • Once you click on the button you will need to create an account with WConline the first time you go there.
  • Once you create your account, you will log in and find a tutor, click on the time slot you wish to reserve and fill out the registration information.
  • You DO NOT need to make an appointment if you are going to come in for an in-person tutoring session. You can just drop-in anytime during the hours in which the tutor for your subject that you need help with is available.
  • The calendar with the time slots will show if the tutor is busy with appointments so drop in times may vary but the tutor schedule is set for the term.

The Tutoring Center maintains the right to ask persons who do not follow the UCC Student Code of Conduct and these rules of conduct to leave the Sue Shaffer Teaching & Learning Center/Library.

  • No cell phone use in the Tutoring Center; volume should be turned off or to vibrate; calls should be taken to the lobby.
  • No unattended children under the age of 12.
  • No one under the age of 16 allowed in the computer lab (unless an enrolled UCC student.)
  • No entering or exiting through doors labeled "personnel only" or "emergency exit", except in a case of emergency.
  • Snacks that aren't messy or smelly and drinks are allowed in the Tutoring Center, you must clean up after yourself.

Tutoring Can Help You:

  • Become a more confident, successful, independent learner
  • Develop your understanding and skills in a number of courses
  • Improve your time management, note-taking, and test-taking skills

What Tutors CAN Do:

  • Review and explain assignments.
  • Facilitate understanding and utilization of textbooks.
  • Clarify information presented by the instructor.
  • Assist with review and edit of written papers.
  • Give tips on studying and note-taking.

What Tutors CANNOT Do:

  • Teach material that is (or isn't) presented in class. Peer tutors are not instructors, if you are in need of an instructor, you need to make a special appointment with one of our Faculty Tutors or make an appointment with your instructor.
  • Write speeches or term papers for students. 
  • Do another student's homework.
  • Contact instructors to find out what is being taught in every class. If they are not busy, they may go with a student to their instructor if they do not know the material.
  • Give advice on anything other than what subjects they tutor. There are other resources on campus that we can direct you to if you need help with anything else.

We would love for you to work with us! Tutoring jobs are paid positions available to students who show strength in the courses they would like to tutor. 

Tutors can be either Umpqua Community College students taking at least six credits each term or non students who can demonstrate their expertise in the subject matter they desire to tutor.. 

Preferred candidates demonstrate these additional qualities:  

  • Interest in helping other students
  • Willingness for personal growth

The Tutoring Center provides free tutoring services for UCC students.

  1. Meet with a UCC tutor:
    • The full schedule of tutors is listed on the Tutor Schedule website linked to the big green button on the Tutoring Schedule tab.
    • These hours may vary during the term and in the intersession.
    • Subjects covered by tutors may vary term to term.
    • One on one appointments, drop-in tutoring, and online tutoring available.
